This years travel plans…

Some of our travel plans for this year. Connie and I are going to meet up with my sister Nancy and her man Scotty, for a week in Florida. We are going to do the Disney World thing. Can’t wait. Mom and Dad are coming in early June, and Leavenworth Washington is always on the books for them. So a couple of days there. Dad loves his german sausages and dark beer. And we love hangin with them, eating dogs and drinking dark beer. I can not tell you how special it is for me to sit with my Dad and have a beer together! And later in the summer we are planning a trip to Yellowstone park. Going to take my father in law, sister in law, her grandson ( i know he is family but where he is at on the family tree to me is a mystery) our grandson , Connie and myself. So that is in a nut shell a couple of our plans. Til later! Don’t forget to thank God every day for his love and grace.

2012 Off and Running

New Years has come and gone. Now it’s time to set some goals and push forward. I seem to be stuck it a bit of a stagnate place in my professional life. It appears to me these days, that hard work gets you nowhere. I don’t honestly believe that.Change comes from ones ability to step out and take chances. I need to find a place where I can make a difference. Not just in work, but in someones life. I need to look at others and see where I can help. This year I need to work on my physical health and my spiritual health. So God willing we are off, off and running. Lets see in which direction we get led. So here’s to 2012. Til next time. Hunting 2011 Come and Gone…

Had a great time this year. September’s hunt was hot. Not as in seeing any animals but is in temperature. Connie and I spent 5 days in Northeast Washington. Saw lot of tracks but we were pretty sure all the animals were moving at night. I mean it was really hot. We did have an Elk sneak up on us while we were in the ground blind. We set up our blind pretty close to a game trail. I told Connie that nothing should come from behind us. Any guesses where it came in at? It tore off when it realized that something wasn’t right. Kinda cool!. But at the same time not.

My friend Doug and I did some scouting for late season. We took his tent trailer to an area I got drawn to hunt, north of Spokane Washington. The first nite we got there and shortly after calling it a night. Doug almost got pushed out of his bunk by a bear. We had come to rob our camp of any goodie he could find. Doug got him to leave. About an hour later here he comes again. And all we could hear is something gnawing on something.We open the trailer door and there stands Yogi. Yelling at him, pointing flashlights at him did nothing to make him leave. I gave Doug my 45 gun. Doug fired a round towards him. And Yogi just stood there and looked at Doug as if to say ” That the best you got” And after about 5 to 10 seconds left. This camp site must be his favorite. Because we went back up there a couple weeks later and someone had grabbed that camp site. We noticed that their cooler and a tote with food in it was destroyed. Stupid bear!

Late season was just the opposite. Cold and snow. I hunted with my buddy Doug and we did see a few Deer. What we had tags for were Deer , 4 point or better. That’s a minimum of 4 points on one side. So you know we were looking for an older deer. No luck. We did have a Bull Moose at 24 yards. That was pretty cool. He had no idea we were even there.Until Doug grunted. That’s when he look over to where we were at. Were sitting in a ground blind. The moose hears Doug’s grunt. And all can think of , this moose is going to charge us. Now what. After a few seconds he wandered off. Connie hunted closer to home. She got a shot at a 4×4. Unfortunately they lost the blood trail. And it looks as if it ran onto private property. So our deer count in the freezer is the big old fat goose egg. All in all we had a blast hanging together in the forest. And the time we spent with our friends was awesome. So today we prepare for next years hunt. Nine more months and counting. Next up is fishing. Let see what we can do this year.

Monday Morning September 5th 2011

It’s finally here. Got a call from my buddie Bob. He went up Saturday morning to find a good camp site. Now all we have to do is find them. I have a couple of last minute things to do. Connie is still sleeping. I know she is excited. We can’t shoot anything but a buck this week. So we’re hopin to find some mulies. Gotta go ! Pictures of our trip when we get back. Wish us luck.

Sunday September 3rd 2011 The Day Before Our First Hunt Of The Season

Well here it is. We leave in the morning. Should be setting up our blind and hunting tomorrow afternoon. We are all packed. The 4 wheelers are gassed up. And all we need to do is put a little bit of fuel into the motor home. Put some ice in the ice chest and we’re off. Very excited to get out and roam the forest.

A couple of weeks ago we went camping with our good friends Doug and Pnut. Doug my fishing guide for the day, put us on some nice Northern Pike. We didn’t have a scale or a tape measure. So we were guessing at the weight. Somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds. I thought closer to 20 than 15. Any ways had a great time. Thanks Doug and Pnut!

Four days until we get out in the field. Deer opened today Elk on Tuesday. Were going to one of our spots in northeastern Washington. A couple hours from the house. It’s gonna be hot next week, so it should be a slow one. We’ll keep ya posted!

What a great month. Busy as usual. Hunting was good. Saw a lot of Deer. Passed on most of em. I did get a shot at a doe. But we lost her. Not my best shot, and she went into private property.Christmas was a blast. Jeff and Erica and the grand kids were fun as always. Connie is always coming up with something interesting. We did a non typical Christmas dinner. Pork Burritos. UMMM. I got lots of hunting goodies. Already counting the days til opening day next year. Lots of cold and snow the last couple days. But it’s all good. Off on New Years Eve, tomorrow. Lots to do.

Friday’s Hunt

Cold and snow. Lots of snow. We got to our spot, set up. Lots of snow. If you read my earlier post when we scouted this, we thought it looked pretty good. We didn’t think we would have had this much snow. The wind was at our face. And it was blowing pretty good. Snowed almost the whole day. We didn’t see anything in the area we were at so we packed up and headed for some different spots. On the way we spotted two deer up on the hill in front f us. No chance at getting either one. So we rode to a nice spot had a bite to eat and decided to walk for awhile. The two deer that we had spotted earlier look like they had come our way. But we never saw they again. The conditions went from cold and snowy to almost blizzard white out conditions. So we thought it was time to head back to the truck. Beautiful ride and absolutely gorgeous. But not so good for getting us any meat in the freezer. But that’s why it’s called hunting and not killin. It looks like we’ll have to see what the rest of the week has to offer. I did almost hit three deer Friday night here in town. Second time I’ve come across this bunch in the last couple of week. Not really how I want to harvest a deer. The forecast does not look very promising. Lots more snow on the way. The 10 day shows 8 days of snow. And driving conditions are hazardous. Till next time.

Four more day until the hunt. Weather has gotten pretty cold and snowy. The low when I got up was 9. Better than the predicted low temp of 1. We are in blizzard conditions this morning. Glad I’m not driving in this. The low tonight is in the minus 10-12 degree range. Then we start to warm up. Friday is suppose to be in the mid 20′s. And sun. Should make it feel like 34 or so. We are getting anxious can’t wait. So it’s off to work we go. Not so anxious about that, but we do what we have to do. Have a great day.
